@Unreconstructed lol, brain police still at it. also, neighbors have Rhode Island Red chickens. one rooster in particular spends all afternoon in my yard & he follows me when I'm outside. would he be a semi-pet? I'm fine with it. always had a thing for redheads, but prefer females & either orang or human.

The previously mentioned Basil and Manuel were a rabbit and a guinea pig respectively, owned by my sister and I when we were kids. As bondojoe says they were named after characters in Fawlty Towers.
But mostly I am a 'cat person', have always had at least one, but the most was 5 adults - one of whom was an emergency rescue who promptly gave birth to 7 kittens.
Mostly they have been rescues, or from friends who's cats had kittens.
But I always wanted a blue eyed Siamese, and four years ago I finally got one. At the time I had another rescue, but when we lost him along came Nelson, he's an Oriental.
Frankie - cos I got her soon after my Dad died, and she was going to be Reggie after him, but it didn't suit. However Dad was a Sinatra fan, and 'ole blue eyes'...
And Nelson, because Son said if we had a black cat we should name it after a famous black person. I didn't want a cat called Tupac.

@Teeny💋☮ They make the best pets, super affectionate - to the point of being needy at times. Highly intelligent, Nelson plays fetch, I didn't teach it, he just does. He's an Oriental Short Hair (a Siamese but solid colour). I think that Lady and the Tramp gave them a bad name that's stuck - but totally undeserved. They also really do need the company of other cats, unless their human is home all day. My two are always snuggled together.

@⭐️janerosity⭐️ That is good to hear, I plan on getting one in the future but not until my son moves out. He is allergic to them really bad. His eyes swell shut. I had a cat the kind that are colored like a bob-cat. I named him Little Bit and he ended up being huge. He played fetch as well, he was so much more like a dog than a cat. Sadly I couldn't keep him with my son so sick all the time.

@Teeny💋☮ Do you mean a Bengal? They do share some traits with Siamese, intelligence for one. Anyone so badly allergic is going to react to any cat, but Siamese have less dander, and moult less than other breeds so they are kind of hypoallergenic. My best friend could never pet any of my other cats, but although she would not do so for long she's had Frankie on her lap and been fine.

@⭐️janerosity⭐️ I didn't know they were hypoallergenic or had less dander, I would have had one a long time ago. I should have gotten him Siamese and a chihuahua for his asthma and he would have been great....lol

Hi,guys smiley ,I share my house with a 7 yr.old Burmese lady.(marked like a chocolate siamese, just with a much darker body. But very like a regular Siamese.)And she's a sweetie with a funny little "meow"like a baby cat.She acts like a regular pointer, meowing and showing me what she wants me to do.Lassie as a cat. She's so smart,(I guess) she looks at me drawing or typing on the computer, looks at the screen, and looks at my hands trying to figure out what I am doing.

She's a "rescue cat":cause Craig's list put my address down, mistakenly, and this woman showed up on my door, saying"You're looking for a Siamese?"and whipped out her phone with Bella's(my cats)picture. She was a radiant perfect Siamese,I fell in love instantly. Her owner was too old to keep her now,so at 3 yrs. old,she needed anew owner. Her daughter helped get us together. She lived in a tiny studio, before so now she liked to get out in my unkept back yard, and eat real grass.Lay in the sun. She's pretty happy now,we're close, she loves a high perch on the "Cat tree,"looking down at me.

You're often either a cat or dog person, hard to find a combination.Cats are smart aleck, independent, this one "talks"meow, like a feline Lassie.I often notice she's so smart, she can figure out how to manipulate me to do what she wants.Ha ha.The birds in the back of my messy place, are going nuts, when she;s out, they are scared of her--I won;t let her kill one.Squirrels living here(a lot)also are careful of her.I notice stray cats in this neighborhood, come over, and literally jump into the trees, trying to score a squirrel!Fortunately these acrobatic little squirrels are wise to this stuff, they fly thru the trees like astronauts.

People here sometimes make "pets"of the squirrels, but I think it'[s a bad idea, cause they have to live independent of humans, and not trust them.So I just observe their lives, and try not to interfere.I tried to "rescue"one once, who got hit by a car,but all the vets refuse to help squirrels;they consider them "diseased rodents"too infectious to treat.I was really surprised at all the vets' attitude towards squirrels, cause everyone loves watching them.--but the disease quotent scares them away. smiley

All your pets sound great. smiley

I have 3 rescued dogs, our oldest is Jade she is a blue pit. My husband saw her as a puppy chained to a cinder block at a known dog fighting place. She was smaller framed and would have been used as a bait dog. So he jumped the fence and rescued her.

Our middle child is another pit, her name is Juno. We were staying at my husband's family cabin out in the country. We were driving to the store after watching a documentary on the chuppa-cobra (sp). All of the sudden this small, dark thing with huge ears came out of the woods and was running down the dirt road in front of us. We thought for sure it was a baby chuppa-cobra...lol! We stopped the car and she ran right to us. She was about 10 weeks old and starved. You could see every bone in her body. She had no hair on her feet, tail and ears. We slowly nursed her back to health. She threw up acorns that she had eaten to stay alive. She now loves to stay under blankets and to snuggle.

My youngest, my baby is a Carin Terrier mix. His name is Bohdi. We went looking at the local dog shelters once day bc my husband had been real depressed. What better way to feel better than to rescue a dog and take care of it... get out of your own head. We of course loved and wanted to save them all. My husband had gone to the car and I was playing with the cats, when I got outside my husband was taking to a man while walking his dog on a leash. The man said he couldn't keep his dog but couldn't stand the thought of him in a cage so he was going to have him euthanized if no one came along and wanted him. He was a little older than what we were looking for (almost a year old already) and he was a boy. We were both use to females. We decided what the hell and brought him home. This little dog decided I was his human and he follows me like a shadow. Anytime I am standing and taking he will drive me crazy until I pick him up. He likes to be carried on my hip like a toddler. He is the smartest dog i've ever seen and will take your hand off if you tried to hurt me. Funny thing though we went looking for my husband to have a new pet and really I was the one most in need of a pet. All of our babies rescued us at times we were in need not the other way around.

Right now I have a beta fish that is high maintenance. I have never seen a fish act like this. He only eats the freshest food so I have to feed him one at a time or he will just snub the food. I tried to just make him eat it by not feeding him more, he chose to starvation strike.
He also gets all excited and swims to the top of his tank when I clap, because he thinks I have captured him a fruit fly. He's going to be disappointed once this buggy summer is over lol. Once I gave him a house fly but it was too big, so of course I cut it into nasty little bug bits for him.
He has no name. I call him The Fish.
I would have dogs but I live in apartment and am far too lazy to take a dog out every time it needs. I think having a yard is a must when you have a dog, but that's just me. So I just have fish for now, but the other fish are not as ridiculous as this one.

the semi-pet Rhode Island Red rooster is comin' over earlier & earlier every day & now hangin' out with Cocoa, the Chesapeake, in the back yard. this wouldn't have happened when I first rescued Cocoa, she was big & quite a bully, only Benny the Van had her number, popped the fire out of her every time she came in the house & still does. but, Cocoa has now lived many years past normal expectancy for a Chesapeake, so, she has mellowed out & enjoys the rooster's companionship.

When you woke up this morning everything was gone
By half past ten your head was going ding-dong
Ringing like a bell from your head down to your toes,
Like a voice trying to tell you there's something you should know
Last night you were flying but today you're so low
Ain't it times like these that make you wonder if you'll ever know
The meaning of things as they appear to the others
Wives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers
Don't you wish you didn't function, don't you wish you didn't think beyond the next paycheck
And the next little drink?
Well, you do, so make up your mind to go on 'cause when you woke up this morning
Everything you had was gone, everything you had was gone... Alabama 3

I've also never heard of this cat breed:
The Lykoi, as a new emerging cat breed, was created due to a natural genetic variation in the population of the Domestic Shorthair. It is still being developed by breeders who previously had worked with some hairless cats. It has a somewhat wolf-like appearance, characterized by sparse hair surrounding its nose, ears, eyes, and muzzle, while the rest of its body features a patched coat. These physical characteristics together with large round eyes and a wedge-shaped head lend the cat a lean and shabby look.

@springfield45 And why would you? Do others ever say after a human passes, "Will you get another?" They are our family. Full stop. Yay YOU, go YOU. smiley

@Gustafmax That's cool! I live in the country, but have never seen a live Lama!

@Gustafmax When I was in Nepal they had both Llamas and Alpacas. The Alpacas guarded the Llamas. It's was amazing. I never knew! I have such respect for them. There are a few (I mean rare) sheep herders here who have both, though I get super mixed up when I see them and forget which is bigger and has the "banana" shaped ears. LOL I love them. They are VERY smart and loyal.

I have 4 cats and one dog, All rescued! well technically I am rescuing another abandoned kitten. Although I can't keep him, even though I am totally in love with him already. I have to find a home for him. He is the sweetest adult kitten I have ever been around. And I've been around a lot of cats. Anyone live in FLorida???? Want to adopt a cat????

@sunshinedaydreams I would since I've lost my sweet baby (Cockatiel) but I'm in Canada. You've got a big heart. More people like yourself are needed in this cruel world.

Me, I'll adopt him. Oh wait, the flight would kill the wee fella.

Besides, I've already like 5 cats in this wee area that are starving. Gosh, people are so *&6666%$~###!!!!!
